Benjamin Francis Johnston: A short summary of the biography of Parque Sinaloa´s founder and former owner.

As we all know, Sir Benjamin Francis Johnston was one of the founders of the city of Los Mochis, in the State of Sinaloa, more than a hundred years ago.

A hundred years may seem like a lot of time, some say there hasn´t been any true changes in the infraestructure of the garden, some say the garden looks nothing like it used to be when it was made, then again, more than a hundred years ago.

Truth be told, Parque Sinaloa, changed or not, remains and will always remain as one of the most important cultural and touristic representations of the city of Los Mochis, if not the most important as it is. this is a fact that makes us, peoplo who live in Los Mochis, proud and full of joy.

But let´s step aside from the Garden itself, an let´s focus a little bit in the man behind this beautiful creation...

Benjamin Francis Johnston was born in the city of New York, even though he lived most of his childhood in a small town of virginia, in the year 1865. His parents were Sir John C. Johnston and Miss Belle Williams Johnston. He was a single child. He completed most of his studies in Sharon, Virginia and in his free time, he used to sell newspaper on his own, in order to mantain himself and to provide for his parents. In the afternoons, he used to attend a comercial academy in which he studied Bank Legislation and graduated as an accountant.

His entrance to Mexico was through Nogales, Sonora, in the northwest of the country around the year of 1890. He was invited by an engineer called Edward Lycan to participate in the construction of a Sugar production establishment, but declined the offer and started working in his own projects.

He acted as an industrial engineer for a lot of years, and since the foundation of the city, he remains one of the most iconic characters of  Los Mochis´s history.
